Marilyn Mazur Trio
Marilyn Mazur, Josefine Cronholm and Krister Jonsson
The Danish percussionist Marilyn Mazur is not only one of Scandinavia's most prominent jazz musicians, but very much belongs to the international elite. She has played with greats such as Miles Davis. Gil Evans, Wayne Shorter and Jan Garbarek, and she is the rhythmic hub in a number of her own groups. Now we get to experience her in a trio with vocalist Josefine Cronholm and guitarist Krister Jonsson.
Marilyn Mazur is a highly personal instrumentalist. Inside a forest of drums and all kinds of remedies from which it is possible to get a sound out of, she unfolds with a game that is sometimes cautious and then subdued, soon powerfully swinging. With her at this year's festival concert, she has two Swedes with whom she has had a close collaboration for many years. The vocalist Josephine Cronholm is undoubtedly one of the Nordic countries' finest vocalists. She conveys her lyrics with warmth and closeness and her almost magnetic presence on stage. - The guitarist Kristen Jonsson is distinguished by a particularly vital playing - which can be both lyrically thoughtful and fresh and fiery. The trio's music ranges from tender ballads and dreamy musical textures to funky tunes and frenetic and strongly expressive music - all played with the same elegance.
