Thurston Moore Group
The Sonic Youth icon at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival!
We are not exaggerating if we refer to Thurston Moore as a legend. As the founder of Sonic Youth, he has been a pioneering figure and icon within alternative rock and adjacent genres. Now he comes with his own Thurston Moore Group and plays the festival's closing concert on Saturday night at Energimølla!
There are many concerts throughout Kongsberg Jazzfestival's 60-year history that are talked about. And some concerts are extra rewarding to be able to say you've been to. One of these is undoubtedly Sonic Youth in Kongsberghallen in 2000. At that time, the band, with momentum right from the start of the 1980s, was at a career turning point after having been "common property" in indie rock circles through some particularly influential years and records in the 90s . It is also said that prior to the recording of "Nevermind", Nirvana signed a contract with Geffen Records on Thurston Moore's recommendation.
Thurston Moore - and Sonic Youth - are nevertheless also experienced as close to jazz, art rock and noise, eternally exploring the intersection between pop and the avant-garde. The band also released experimental records outside of their regular releases, and Thurston Moore has an idiosyncratic and exciting history under his own name as well.
When he now returns to Kongsberg after a quarter of a century, he brings his own Thurston Moore Group and plays the festival's closing concert on Saturday night at Energimølla! This will be a rare opportunity to hear one of rock history's most influential guitarists of the last 40 years in an intimate and exclusive setting!
