We are switching to reusable glass!
Kongsberg Jazzfestival has for many years worked with sustainability and the environment in the organisation. We are one of the first festivals in Norway to be Eco-Lighthouse certified, which places great demands on us as an organisation.
After looking for good solutions to reduce the use of plastic at the festival, we have now found a more environmentally friendly solution for handling drink service. Plastic glass is one of the biggest waste fractions the festival has, but in recent years there has been a lack of solutions that are good and environmentally friendly enough. We have looked at, among other things, the use of PLA, deposit schemes and other solutions to reduce the environmental footprint - without getting good enough results.
"We are now proud to have entered into a partnership with Rene Glass AS for the supply of recycled glass at the festival. The glasses are transported from Vestfold to the festival, where they are used for all drink serving, and collected again after the festival. These are then washed and disinfected, before they can be used at other festivals this summer. A good environmental measure and a good way to reduce plastic use.” says Truls Liang, project manager of the festival.
Energimølla started as a club pilot for the same supplier this year, and we are proud to do the same.
This still results in increased costs for the festival, and an environmental fee of NOK 10 is therefore added, in the same way as the other festivals with the solution do. The environmental tax is added to the first glass you buy. When you have drunk the contents, you hand in the glass to the bar to buy a new unit. If you do this, an environmental tax will not be added as a thank you for your contribution.
