Streaming of the Rooftop concert

The Rooftop concert in which the Rubber Soul Quartet recreates The Beatles' iconic Rooftop Concert from 1969 is sold out, but it is streaming for free in The Facebook event and in the festival's YouTube channel:

THE BEATLES very last performance together - THE ROOFTOP CONCERT - was held on the roof of the Apple building in Savile Row in London on 30 January 1969. It was Paul McCartney who, due to time constraints, suggested the location. On the eve of their career as the world's most famous rock band, The Beatles had decided to rehearse songs for an album and then perform them in front of a large audience. The result was to be a final live record with only new material. Billy Preston (organ and electric piano) was an extra musician in the band during this period.

At 13.00 p.m. The Beatles turned on the amplifiers and spoke up "Get Back". However, after several complaints from angry neighbours, the police appeared in the street, climbed onto the roof to stop the concert, which they managed after some discussion. The Rooftop Concert nevertheless forms the last part of the film Let It Be, and shows a good band - in luck, but in a surprisingly good mood and happy to be able to make a bit of a fuss again. The placement of a concert on top of a roof was also highly original – but can be repeated!

The new Norwegian jazz band RUBBER SOUL QUARTET has been inspired by the idea. They neither have a fear of heights nor are they anxious about sunstroke. On 8 July at 20:00 they therefore count up at the top of KRONA in Kongsberg with guest soloist Anders Aarum on electric. piano.

Playing the timeless songs of The Beatles in jazz versions may perhaps be considered musical blasphemy for some. But that is precisely what the current record Rubber Soul Quartet has thrown into. Most of The Beatles' repertoire is well suited to playing with for jazz musicians, perhaps especially for those who love everything from swing, bop, soul, funk and bossa nova , to… The Beatles. It is the strong melodies, the clever chords and the rhythmic drive that fascinate them the most. And the aim of this band is not to copy, but to improvise; to take apart the musical building blocks and put them back together.

Unlike American standards from the 1930s, 40s and 50s, which hundreds of jazz quartets have interpreted over the years, this band concentrates on English standards from the 1960s. With respectful reference to the original melodies, the Rubber Soul Quartet play their re-arranged jazz versions, with a collective approach, but where everyone is allowed to express themselves solo.
