About Us
Kongsberg Jazz Festival is one of Europe's oldest jazz festivals, established in 1964. Every year in week 27, the festival brings together audiences from both Norway and abroad for four days of concerts and experiences in Kongsberg.
The program ranges from the innovative and groundbreaking to established world-class names, and combines a strong jazz program with larger outdoor concerts and a wide side program for different target groups. The concerts take place in around 15 venues across the city – from clubs and churches to backyards and outdoor stages – making the whole of Kongsberg part of the festival experience.
The festival is carried out in collaboration with around 600 volunteers, who together create one of the country's most important meeting places for music and culture.
Kongsberg Jazz Festival is a non-profit foundation. This means that we are not run for commercial purposes, and that all earnings go back to the festival. The values we create remain in our city – in the cultural life, the music life and the local community – but also in the national music life.
The festival is an important stage for Norwegian musicians, and gives both established names and new voices the opportunity to reach an audience, develop projects and create new collaborations. At the same time, we are firmly rooted locally, with a clear social mission: we develop jazz, strengthen Norwegian music life and create community and experiences.
Through volunteerism, talent development, free events and active work with inclusion and sustainability, we work to ensure that more people experience, understand and develop a relationship with jazz – and with all that music creates between people.
