Environment and sustainability
The Kongsberg Jazz Festival was, together with the Island Festival, Norway's first Eco-Lighthouse-certified festival in 2007.
One of the goals of the Kongsberg Jazz Festival is to be an environmental beacon that inspires environmental work among local and regional cultural actors. We work continuously to find good environmental solutions in all areas.
Here are some of the measures we have introduced to take care of the environment:
- We are making Tinius Olsens-gate and Nybrua car-free during the festival to reduce noise and emissions, and create a folk festival for the public.
- We are certified as an Environmental Lighthouse and thus go further in our environmental work than statutory requirements.
- We have replaced diesel units with fixed current to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- We use LED lights on the concert stages in the Musikkteateret, which reduces energy consumption by 70-80% compared to regular lighting (introduced in 2016).
- We shop locally as much as possible to minimize the need for transport.
- We explore sustainable solutions to reduce food waste and consumption.
- We encourage everyone to travel by public transport as far as possible.
- We are placing sorting stations around the city to handle the waste from the festival in a sustainable way.
