Gallery Åkern & Smeltehytta is complete!
Kongsberg Jazz Festival takes place at various venues in the city, including at Gallery Åkern og Smeltehytta. These two scenes have a common denominator; both are part of the 'Særing' category – the most experimental part of the concert programme. If you have a penchant for free improvisation and the most experimental and wacky variations within jazz, these are the concerts for you.
Single tickets are sold for all the concerts, but we also have a limited number Særingpass. Særingpass gives you access to all the concerts at Galleri Åkern and Smeltehytta, in addition to some selected concerts at Energimølla.
Free age limit
If you want to bring children with you to a concert, it is only nice if the artist, venue and music are "child-friendly". If you are in doubt, please contact us. Children under the age of 12 are admitted free of charge to concerts with no age limit (not the Barnivalen), subject to availability.
If you want to take a child with you to a concert with a seat ticket, a separate ticket must be purchased (unless the child is sitting on your lap).
Hilde Marie Holsen
Trumpet magic!
We hear very well that Hilde Marie Holsen can play the trumpet as beautifully as she wants. Combined with electronic noise, her music is even more expressive.

Ikue Mori
A unique opportunity to experience electronic music in pure perfection

Særingfest 2019
Særingfest is the place for everyone with an ear for improvised music and free jazz
Særingfest was first organized in 2016, and is now a regular "festival" in the festival. At Smeltehytta this evening, the audience gets a full evening of improvisational music, good food and a good atmosphere. Two of the most important driving forces in improvisational music in Norway, Ståle Liavik Solberg og Paal Nilssen-Love, are also this time behind the programme.

The front garden
This year's program consists of three concerts, and each one of them should excite even the most jaded festival-goer

Trondheim Jazz Orchestra + Atomic
Premiere of a new work by Atomic for the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra!
Atomic and the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra have an interesting shared history. In addition to the fact that they both reached their legal age in 2018, they are also defining for the Scandinavian jazz developed after the turn of the millennium. Atomic paved the way for a more American approach to Nordic jazz, at the same time that the influence of European art music has gained an increasingly greater place in the expression over the years.

Joshua Abrams Natural Information Society with Helge Sten & Hamid Drake
From Chicago comes Joshua Abrams' Natural Information Society with a mix of long stretches, minimalist lines and hard-swinging rhythms.
Joshua Abrams' guimbri is the centerpiece of the music, which mixes inspiration from gnawa, free jazz and psychedelia. Since the band started in 2010, the line-up has varied from concerts to recordings, but in recent years it has centered around Abrams, Lisa Alvarado on harmonium and gong, along with bass clarinetist Jason Stein and drummer Mikel Avery.
