From fragments to a whole
On the last day of the festival, a very special concert experience was on the programme. With the commissioned piece "Remixme", poet Fredrik Høyer and songwriter, musician and singer Hanne Hukkelberg filled two concert performances on the last day of jazz.
The Lågdalsmuseet was the concert venue and the audience entered a stage room with chairs placed seemingly bolt to bolt around a central point in the hall. The entire concert was a sensory experience of electronic sound, song and poetry. After the extra performance, Fredrik Høyer told a little about the commissioned work.
- Why did you choose to call the project “Remixme”?
- We had a different title for the project at first, but ended up with this word because the remix ideology is behind the project. We combine old things into new constellations.
- What do you want to tell with this project?
- Seeing the world as a lot of pieces that we put back together. It is an inspiring way to make music and gives a sense of freedom. And we want the audience to take part in this.
- What do you want the audience to experience?
- It should be a nice moment for everyone, a moment where you feel that you are involved. The concert performance will also be a "two-way thing" where the audience will be involved in creating the performance. And the placement of the chairs underpins this, here everyone takes part in the work by moving the chair as they wish.
- How has it been working on the project?
- The project has been great fun. I have previously written a lecture on remixing that I gave at Dramatikkens hus, where I am incidentally the house dramatist this year. So it was fun to work with theater and music together in collaboration with several musicians.
Joining the stages were, in addition to Hanne Hukkelberg, also Jonas Barsten (percussion, electronics) and Oscar Udbye (lighting design). The director of the commissioned work "Remiksme" is Nils Petter Mørland, theater manager at Brageteateret. Bestillingsverket is a collaborative project between Brageteateret and Kongsberg Jazz Festival.
