Opens the festival with genius-declared masterpiece

The multi-instrumentalist Stian Carstensen has played a central role in Norwegian and international music life for many years, and he is a particularly popular musician. We know him from the popular farmers market, but he has visited countless bands and the most diverse musical expressions - always with a commitment and a mood that rubs off on the audience. He has a fascination for Bulgarian folk music, and a main aim of "Musical Sanatorium" is to forge these rhythms together with European art music - and a bit of everything else. The work, which came out on record this autumn, has been declared a genius by the reviewers and the album features guests such as Jacob Collier, Mike Patton, Ola Kvernberg, Jacob Collier, Todd Terje, Jarle Vespestad, Finn Guttormsen, Atle Sponberg and Torbjørn Dyrud. We will also hear several of these at the concert in Kongsberg Musikkteater. Read more here.

New Swedish-Norwegian super team makes up the Union

A boiling atmosphere is expected at Energimølla on Thursday night when the new Swedish-Norwegian super team Unionen invites you to one of the few exclusive concerts in 2022! The band consists of the four musicians Per Texas Johansson, Ståle Storløkken, Petter Eldh and Gard Nilssen. Individually, they have made a name for themselves in bands such as Supersilent, Elephant9, Susanne Sundfør, Terje Rypdal Skywards, Koma Saxo and others. The band arose from a common desire to tie musical ties together in the borderland between an acoustic and electric expression, with songs and suggestive riffs as a starting point for long, open parts! Saxophone star from the New York scene

Born and raised in Chile, Melissa Aldana brought her native musical heritage with her when she moved to New York. There she was quickly noticed, and in 2013 she won the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition, with musicians such as Wayne Shorter and Branford Marsalis on the jury. Melissa Aldana places herself in a proud tradition of saxophonists such as Sonny Rollins and Chris Potter. But she does not copy the role models; she has her own voice that has reached many.

Melissa Aldana comes to the festival with her quartet. The Norwegian guitarist Lage Lund also plays there - who played a brilliant concert at the jazz festival in 2021. Read more here.
