Premiere of a new work by Atomic for the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra!
Trondheim Jazz Orchestra and Atomic have an interesting shared history. In addition to the fact that they both reached their legal age in 2018, they are also defining for the Scandinavian jazz developed after the turn of the millennium. Atomic paved the way for a more American approach to Nordic jazz, at the same time that the influence of European art music has gained an increasingly greater place in the expression over the years. With energetic albums such as Feet Music and the Spellemann prize-winning Boom Boom and Happy New Ears, they have steadily consolidated their position as one of Europe's leading modern jazz bands. Through hundreds of concerts all over the world, they have built up a reputation as a fantastic live band, and when they also team up with the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, we can already sense the contours of a historic evening at Kongsberg!
On their latest and already critically acclaimed album Pet Variations, Atomic plays their interpretations of the postmodernists Edgar Varese and Olivier Messiaen with as much naturalness as when they play Carla Bley, Jimmy Guiffre or Jan Garbarek. For the concert at Kongsberg, bassist Ingebrigt Håker tells Flaten that we will hear newly written music from all of Atomic.
