The North: The Music of Kenny Wheeler feat. Norma Winstone

Norma Winston is one of jazz’s most remarkable vocalists and holds a very special position in English jazz. She had a long-standing collaboration with Kenny Wheeler, both in Wheeler’s own band and in the trio Azimuth. Her versatility is striking. She can breathe life into the simplest of songs, and she can improvise with the agility and flow of an instrumentalist.

But The North houses several international celebrities. Both Nikki Iles and Percy Pursglove have been central to the English jazz and improvisation scene for a number of years. Mike Murley is an award-winning saxophonist from Canada. The team is Scandinavian: Johnny Åman is one of Sweden’s busiest bass players, and the Danish drummer Anders Mogensen has shown on several previous visits to Kongsberg that he knows his stuff.
