The Sverre Sæbø Quintet is ready to take over the Kongsberg Jazz Festival with a concert and festival jam when they visit Argus during this year's festival!
The brand new debut album IF, HOWEVER, YOU HAVE NOT LOST YOUR SELF CONTROL, was received with praise from the Norwegian jazz press. Sverre Sæbø Quintet plays music with a energizing gaming pleasure conveyed by five musicians with a capacity and will that you just have to keep up with.
The music is a lively mix of Sæbø's musical references, with clear nods to jazz history and names like Don Cherry, Gato Barbieri and Henri Grimes, but at the same time with a contemporary twist to a more modern Nordic jazz expression. The compositions carry a sense of underlying intention that is lifted to new heights as the musicians knead rhythmic ostinatos and melodic phrases into their personal expressions with incredible will and a healthy dose of humor.
The quintet, consisting of some of Western Norway's strongest young improvisational voices, has in recent years become an increasingly well-known name within the jazz community in the country. Through concerts at, among others, Nattjazz, Oslojazz and Bergen Jazzforum, they have truly established themselves as a band to watch!
