Sun Ra Orchestra

Join us on another journey outerspace when the legendary cult band Sun Ra Arkestra takes over Energimølla with their cosmic and swinging jazz. You won't believe it until you're there!
The jazz legend Sun Ra is often called the father of Afro-Futurism and is one of the most mythic figures jazz history has seen. He was a pianist, composer, arranger, poet and philosopher - and has always been surrounded by an aura of mystery and myth. He himself claimed that he had arrived on Earth from the planet Saturn, to carry forward his message of peace and altruism. After Sun Ra's death in 1993, his orchestra has continued to tour under the direction of 90-year-old saxophonist Marshall Allen.
The 12-piece Sun Ra Arkestra mixes swinging big band arrangements with free improvisation and avant-garde jazz, in a magnificent tribute to its spiritual leader. Sun Ra Arkestra is madness, groove and intergalactic mayhem!
Marshall Allen (director, alto sax, flute), Cecil Brooks (trumpet), Tara Middleton (voc, viol), Knoel Scott (vocals, sax), James Stewart (tenor sax), Danny Ray Thompson (baritone sax), Dave Davis (trombone), Farid Barron (piano), Elson Nascimento (perc, sourdough), Tyler Mitchell (bass), Wayne Anthony Smith Jr (drums)
