Sulida is a new and uncompromising trio on the Norwegian improvisation scene, consisting of three prominent voices in contemporary jazz: Marthe Lea, Jon Rune Strøm and Dag Erik Knedal Andersen. Together they form a soundscape that is as unpredictable as it is poetic – raw, searching and deeply rooted in free improvisation.
The trio explores the borderlands between the impulsive and the structural, where each note arises in the moment and is shaped by the collective presence. With multi-instrumentalist Lea's playful and expressive presence, Strøm's down-to-earth and energetic bass playing, and Knedal Andersen's intuitive drumming, the trio creates music that both challenges and invites.
The debut album UTOS (2024) received rave reviews, and the band has since built a reputation as an amazing live band.
At the Kongsberg Jazz Festival they bring the German trumpet great Axel Dörner - briefly described as "one of the most interesting improvisers in the world, an instrumentalist of prodigious technique, deep sensitivity, and a creativity that continues to grow with each release."
Dörner also plays solo concert at Steinhuset on Friday, July 4th at 13:00 PM!
