Steve Coleman and Five Elements

Concert starts: 19:00 Price single ticket: NOK 350

The stage is set for a rare, but long-awaited, visit when the American saxophonist Steve Coleman comes to the Kongsberg Jazz Festival with his regular band Five Elements.

Steve Coleman co-founded the musician collective M-Base in New York in the 1980s. Here he has been a prominent and central figure together with musicians such as Cassandra Wilson and Geri Allen. Steve Coleman has been an exploratory musician all his life and he has experimented a lot with mixing jazz with other forms of music. Jazz giants Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins and John Coltrane have been clear sources of inspiration for Steve Coleman, and he has collaborated with names such as Cecil Taylor and Dave Holland.

Steve Coleman has not been seen much on Norwegian club and festival scenes, and we are therefore extra happy to present him with his regular band since the early 80s, Five Elements, at the intimate Energimølla.

Drummer Billy Hart said in 2014: "Coleman has quietly influenced the whole jazz musical world, and is the next logical step after Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, and Ornette Coleman". We agree with this!
