SOS for Yemen

The artist group ANNEX invites to the conclusion of the work: We are guided by the beauty of our weapons: YEMEN - Amen
Saturday, 6 July 2019, 21-23 pm at Myntgata 1.
The artists are present for conversation and dialogue.
The piece was made especially for the Kongsberg Jazz Festival 2019
Historically, there are exciting relationships between both jazz, politics and Islam, which go back to the late 1940s. This depends, among other things, on together with jazz's origins in African-American communities in the United States, which at one point led many jazz musicians to convert to Islam.
THE LIGHT SCULPTURE
YEMEN refers to the war-torn country in the Middle East, and Amen is an expression we in Norway know from the church. Amen is also used by the other two major monotheistic religions, Islam and Judaism, usually in connection with prayer and as an expression of 'conclusion'. In many American churches, it is also a widespread phenomenon that the congregation shouts "Amen!", when they agree with the sermon.
The light sculpture's flashing pattern … _ _ _ … is the emergency signal SOS (save our souls) in Morse code.
