Simin Tander – The Wind

A journey through contemporary jazz, ambient folk music and global rhythms! Simin Tander will be guesting at Kongsberg Jazz Festival with a unique trio format with Olav Torget & Sjur Miljeteig.

The German-Afghan singer and composer Simin Tander, who lives in Oslo, has thrilled audiences around the world with her expressive and moving voice. She received the prestigious German Music Critics' Award «Jahrespreis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik» in 2016 for his ECM album with Tord Gustavsen, and was recently nominated for the German Jazz Prize 2024 in the "Vocal" category.

For 20 years, she has performed on leading jazz stages globally – both with her own projects and in exciting collaborations with the likes of Jan Bang, Nils Petter Molvær and Michel Godard. She has also contributed to film music and performed for both UNESCO and UN Women.

At the Kongsberg Jazz Festival we get to experience her in a unique trio format together with two of Norway's most exciting musicians; Olav Torget og Sjur MiljeteigTogether they create a close, but also powerful musical universe with songs from Tander's new album THE WIND (2025, Jazzland Recordings) – a journey through lyrical contemporary jazz, ambient folk music and global rhythms. In addition, we will hear specially arranged interpretations of ancient hymns and pop songs – just for this concert!
