SERENDIP: I was before
I Was Before was founded in 2015 and their music is mainly inspired by African-American popular music, especially hip-hop. Bethany Forseth-Reichberg (vocals), Jørgen Kasbo (guitar), Oskar Johnsen Rydh (drums), Martin Sandvik Gjerde (keys) and Olav Schaathun Imerslund (bass) study jazz at the Norwegian Academy of Music and incorporate each of the members' other musical preferences and backgrounds. This gives a distinctive sound of both something familiar, but at the same time new.
I Was Before released two singles at the start of 2016 and was named Uka's Untouched this spring. The band has also played at the Serendip festival and Nova Fest, and is very much looking forward to playing at this year's Kongsberg jazz festival for the first time.
