Særingfest Saturday: Wallumrød/Flaten + SPACE
On Saturday evening in Smeltehytta, you will experience free and lively live improvisational music - presented by a Norwegian duo and a Swedish trio.
Pianist Christian Wallumrød and bassist Ingebrigt Håker Flaten have both been central musicians on the international jazz and improvisation scene for many years. In the mid-1990s, they attracted attention with the trio "Close Erase", which also included Per Odvar Johansen. They have both gone down many different paths since; but now they meet again. Can anything good come out of Wallumrød's relatively quiet and minimalistic playing against Flaten's muscular bass? We think so!
Pianist Lisa Ullén, bassist Elsa Bergmann and drummer Anna Lund make up the Stockholm-based trio SPACE. All three are well-established musicians with extensive and varied careers. In SPACE, they meet in a common desire to create music inspired both by American free jazz and at the same time classical music. The result is a particularly attractive concoction of raw power and glowing and sparkling sequences, as well as of delicious lyricism and thoughtfulness.
