Særingfest: Truck Rurâl

There are duos that sound like they've been playing together their whole lives. Truck Rurâl is one of them. After meeting each other at the Norwegian Jazz Forum's jazz seminar at Toneheim over 25 years ago, Håvard Skaset and Ståle Liavik Solberg have slowly let their ideas mature towards what has become Truck Rurâl today – a unique meeting between improvisation, blues, folk and acoustic minimalism.
At Smeltehytta during this year's Særingfest, the audience will experience an intimate and impulsive duo format where acoustic guitar and percussion are at the center. Skaset twists and turns on open guitar melodies with references to both American folk and free improvisation, while Solberg's characteristic drumming both drives and challenges the music further. The result is raw, organic and full of small musical surprises.
Both musicians have extensive experience in experimental and improvised music. Ståle Liavik Solberg has collaborated with names like John Butcher, Pat Thomas and Phil Minton, while Håvard Skaset Among other things, he is known from the experimental rock band MoE and collaborations with Japanese improvisational musicians such as Keiji Haino, PainJerk and Ikuro Takahashi.
Truck Rurâl goes back to the core of the instruments and creates a soundscape that is both down-to-earth and searching – with a scent of blues, folk, free jazz and open landscapes.
