Særingfest 2023
The Særingfest is here again!
Særingfest is a full evening of music and sound in all forms and varieties, mingling and summer atmosphere - quite simply a festival within a festival, for all audiences who are curious about music off the beaten track! Free jazz giant and drummer Ståle Liavik Solberg has put together the evening's programme, which offers four concerts with some of the best in European improvisational music.
Lehn / Anker / Alberts / Grenager / Duch / Solberg
Særingfesten's first concert is with a Norwegian-Danish ensemble augmented by the wonderful Thomas Lehn on analogue synth. The ensemble was put together for Kongsbergjazz in 2020, and it is a great pleasure that we will finally get to hear this group improvise! Between them they have played with what can creep and go by musicians within contemporary experimental music, and they have all contributed to a number of lovely concerts at the festival. You can expect high-intensity chamber improv from some of the most actively listening musicians in the business.
Thomas Lehn (synth), Lotte Anker (sax), Kristoffer Alberts (sax), Lene Grenager (cello), Michael Duch (double bass), Ståle Liavik Solberg (percussion)
Garner / Torrence
Natali Abrahamsen Garner and Jennifer Torrence made their debut in Oslo in December 2022, and thrilled the audience with a soundscape unlike most others. The combination of Garner's electronically processed voice and Torrence's unique percussion setup creates a common sound palette that explores with great calmness and clear presence.

Joëlle Léandre
Joëlle Léandre is a legend! She has worked with new music and free improvisation for almost fifty years and has redefined how a double bass can sound - both alone and in countless more or less permanent groups. In June, she receives an honorary award, or Lifetime Achievement Award as it is called in good Norwegian, at the Arts for Art / Vision Festival in New York and we are immensely proud to be able to present her at this year's festival!

Low Sun
Lav Sol creates improvised music inspired by electronica, hip-hop and rock. Inspiration from everything from The Beatles' Ringo Starr to Aphex Twin's drum machines is reflected in the way they improvise. The acoustic meets the electronic in the band's sound consisting of tuba, synth and drums, all through a rich library of samples and effects. Originating from the jazz milieu in Trondheim, August Glännestrand, Heiða Karine Jóhannesdóttir and Håvard Aufles started playing together in 2021 and then they quickly found their way into the distinctive expression they have today.
