Guitar virtuoso Ralph Towner to the Kongsberg Jazz Festival!
A solo concert with guitarist Ralph Towner in Kongsberg Church is bound to be an event. Now it's happening during this summer's jazz festival at Kongsberg!
Ralph Towner has established himself as a musical icon - after several decades of impressive musical activity. After appearing as a Bill Evans-influenced pianist in his youth, he eventually became an outstanding performer on the guitar, and he has been particularly interested in classical and 12-string guitar. He has had fruitful collaborations with a number of jazz greats, such as Weather Report, Jan Garbarek and Gary Burton. And special mention must be made of the quartet Oregon. Here, his interest in both classical and ethnic music shines through, and we find this in his solo music today as well. His solo concerts are an image-creating, undulating and flowing stream - with space and air -, which contains a veritable flora of impulses: Spanish music, classical, folk music, much that goes under the umbrella term 'world music' and - of course! - deep dive into the jazz tradition.
