Prize-winning concert: Mathias Eick
Among other things, Mathias Eick brings the golden throat Ingebjørg Bratland and string quartet to the award-winning concert in Kongsberg cinema.
At last year's jazz festival, Mathias Eick received the prestigious DNB award of NOK 300.000, and according to tradition, the award winner returns to the festival the following year to acknowledge the award with a concert. There is always great excitement attached to the award-winning concert, which we can sign on to this year as well! This winter, Mathias Eick released the album "Midwest" to unanimous good reviews - his third album under his own name on ECM. The music is a journey through the Midwest in the USA, an area Mathias Eick discovered had strong similarities to the place where he has his own roots, in inner Vestfold. At the award-winning concert, we will hear Midwest music, for the occasion enhanced with both a string quartet and the gold-throated Ingebjørg Bratland.
Mathias Eick is a very versatile musician and he has played with artists such as Manu Katché, Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Elvira Nikolaisen and Motorpsycho, but it was Jaga Jazzist that really brought him into the spotlight in the 90s. Now he has established himself well as one of the most important representatives of Norwegian jazz with his lyrical and melodious jazz, and as a solid band leader.
