Poesioasen: Frida Ånnevik
Singer-songwriter Frida Ånnevik is firmly established as an important voice in the current Norwegian musical landscape.
Singer-songwriter Frida Ånnevik is firmly established as an important voice in the current Norwegian musical landscape. Her four albums have drawn high praise and great reviews, and she has deservedly won three Spellemann awards, in company with some of Norway’s most enduring artists (Stein Torleif Bjella, Kari Bremnes and Ole Paus, to name a few).
In 2016 and 2017 she released two related albums – “Her Bor” (“Here lives …”) and “Flyge fra” (Fly from”) – both of which were favourably reviewed and which both won Spellemann awards in the folk category. In the coming weeks Frida will release several singles containing cover versions of songs with her own Norwegian texts, and September will see the release of her album “Andre sanger” (“Other songs”).
“Andre sanger”, an album of a wide range of cover versions of a wide range of songs, is the result of several years’ work.
“These are songs that I have sneaked in as encores in my concerts – there are songs by artists I really look up to, “comfort songs” for myself and songs that I have been curious to try out in Norwegian. So I just wanted to record them,” says Ånnevik about her coming album.
In this year’s festival appearance, Ånnevik brings guitarist Haldor Røyne and pianist Andreas Stensland Løwe to the stage with her – a trio who are guaranteed to touch the audience with their recreations of other artists’ songs as well as new versions of earlier songs.
Ånnevik plays at this year’s “Poesioase” (Poetry oasis), presented at Christian’s Kjeller, one of Kongsberg’s most distinctive arenas.
Kongsberg Jazz Festival’s marketing director Julie Vold Bjørkamo comments that “Frida Ånnevik is one of our finest artists working at the borders of pop, folk and jazz, and it will be great to hear her at this year’s festival – the back yard at Christian’s Kjeller is sure to be packed!”
