Ola Kvernberg & Jason Moran
The pioneering American pianist Jason Moran meets Norwegian jazz ‘fiddle favorite Ola Kvernberg in a unique concert – only at the Kongsberg Jazzfestival!
Jason Moran has since the late 90s been a major figure on the American jazz scene. He has released several albums on the legendary Blue Note Records, both with his regular trio Bandwagon and as a solo pianist. In addition to his own compositions, Jason Moran has become known for his interpretations of artists like Thelonious Monk and Fats Waller.
Since the millennium, Ola Kvernberg has been a leading musician in the Norwegian jazz scene, both with his own projects, and as a significant contributor to other projects. He has previously received the festival’s grand musician award, the DNB award. Kvernberg composed the piece “Mechanical Fair” for the award concert – a musical piece which was later recorded and rewarded with a nomination for a Grammy.
Both Jason Moran and Ola Kvernberg are known as technically brilliant performers, but also as musical innovators who are both able to renew and challenge the jazz genre. When they meet at Energimølla during the Kongsberg Jazzfestival, we will see whether they manage to challenge each other
