NIGHT IN DECEMBER
- Christmas concert with Iver Kleive and Knut Reiersrud in Kongsberg church.
The legendary radar couple Iver Kleive (organ) and Knut Reiersrud (guitar) hardly need any further introduction. For almost 30 years, they have regularly performed for packed churches and concert halls around Norway, and they held a magical midnight concert at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival in the pandemic year 2021.
Based on Norwegian folk tunes, hymns and their own compositions, they have together added a new dimension to traditional church music, and demonstrated the ability to create powerful sound in church spaces. Many remember their releases Blue Coral (1991) Skyship (1996) and Grace upon Grace (2006). With Night in December, atmospheric versions of well-known Christmas carols are presented. The repertoire includes, among other things, "Kling no klokka", "Deilig er jorden", "Silent night", "Jeg singer Christmas quaver" and "I am so happy every Christmas Eve". The newly written "Memory of a bygone Christmas" by Iver Kleive and a Yiddish folk melody entitled "December in Prague" have also been placed.
We look forward to experiencing the meeting between these two outstanding musicians and Kongsberg Church's magnificent acoustics at this year's Christmas concert. To tones from the gloger organ and Reiersrud's guitars and oud, we wish the Kongsberg Jazz Festival the Christmas atmosphere and welcome the audience this evening.
