Morten Qvenild – Local Piano - Extra Concert
Local piano in lush backyard garden. Tickets on sale from 25.06.26 at 10:00

After twenty-five years on tour between Kongsberg, Japan and countless other venues, Morten Qvenild has turned his attention to the near future. The result is LOCAL PIANO – a new solo album inspired by, written and recorded in his home environment in Nesodden.
The project stems from a desire to explore what happens when art takes its starting point from the place one actually lives. The music is created with the neighborhood, the local surroundings and the surrounding nature as a starting point. Along the way, the project has grown into a cross-artistic collaboration with the art collective Lang OmveiTogether with visual artist Jon Benjamin Tallerås and author Lars Mørch Finborud Qvenild has developed a comprehensive publication where music, text and photography explore questions of place attachment, local roots and the relationship between art and nature.
For the audience at Kongsberg Jazz Festival, the project takes on an extra dimension. Qvenild grew up here in the city, and when LOCAL PIANO is now presented at the festival, the project comes home in many ways. After taking shape in the local community of Nesodden, the music returns to the place where the musical journey began.
The concert takes place in the lush garden of ceramist Rigmor Husøy, a hidden oasis on the West Side, the old town of Kongsberg. The private garden opens this afternoon to the festival audience, creating an intimate setting for the music. When a project that explores the relationship between people, places and surroundings meets this distinctive outdoor space, everything is set for an extraordinary concert experience.
Morten Qvenild has for decades distinguished himself as one of the most original and innovative musicians in European jazz and related genres. Many know him from projects such as In the Country, The National Bank and Solveig Slettahjell Slow Motion Quintet, but also through collaborations with artists such as Susanne Sundfør, Arve Henriksen, Thomas Dybdahl, Ingrid Olava, Nils Petter Molvær, Jaga Jazzist and Susanna.
