MIDNIGHT CONCERT: Mari Boine
Mari Boine creates music in the borderland between Sami and other folk music, rock and jazz, and delivers live performances that can take everyone's breath away.
The Norwegian world musician Mari Boine is a guest at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival with a midnight concert in Kongsberg Church, this time in trio format. Since her debut over 30 years ago, she has renewed joik and modernized Sami music through her strong compositions and interpretations.
Over the years, Mari Boine has delivered an incredibly rich discography, spreading our common cultural heritage all over the world. She has also, to put it mildly, been honored for this – with buckets and buckets of Spellemannsprizes (including the honorary prize), Rockheim Hall of Fame, the Nordic Council's Music Prize, the Sami Council's Honorary Prize, Knight of the 1st Class of the Order of St. Olav, the Ole Vig Prize, Finmark County Culture Prize, Anders Jahre's Culture Prize, honorary doctorate, appointed state scholarship holder and much more – a list that can take most people's breath away.
On 9 July we can look forward to a magnificent experience, when Mari Boine plays the night into Kongsberg Church.
