It can only be a very special band that both get Grammy nominated for its first record, as well as winning the prestigious Jazzintro competition. The Megalodon Collective is such a band!
When Megalodon Collective won the Jazzintro competition in the summer of 2016, the jury stated: “The winner of Jazzintro 2016 emerges as a complete band with fantastic instrumentalists. The band has an incredible refreshing mix between full anarchy and fine structure. They play super tight and scrawny at the same time. It is solid, playful and the improvised parts have a clear direction. ” This phenomenon of a band has its roots in the jazz program at NTNU in Trondheim. They have long since conquered the rest of the country and are in full swing to establish themselves internationally. Recently their second album “Animals” came out to rave reviews.
It is a pleasure for Kongsberg Jazzfestival to present Megalodon Collective at this year’s festival!
