Marius Neset: NEXT
Star saxophonist Marius Neset brings his new quintet to Kongsberg
Anyone who has heard of Marius Neset knows that his musical creativity knows no bounds. Over the last few years, Neset has devoted much of his time to composing new music for large ensembles, for example the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and London Sinfonietta. He wrote Viaduct for London Sinfonietta, as a commission in connection with the Kongsberg Jazz Festival musician’s prize – and it was first performed at the festival in 2018.
Marius Neset has won several awards, including a Spellemann prize (Norwegian music industry award) for jazz in 2014. He has been nominated for a Spellemann no fewer than three times, and has also been nominated for the Nordic Council’s music prize. Snowmelt, a recording of music written for the London Sinfonietta, was recognized with an ECHO (German music industry) prize and the Danish Arts Foundation prize.
His first solo album, released on ACT in 2021, was rapturously received by the audience, concert promoters and reviewers alike. Terje Mosnes, the doyen of Norwegian jazz critics, described A New Dawn as a musical revelation, praising Neset’s exceptional technique and musicality.
Now, Marius Neset has formed a new quintet, NEXT, whose debut album will be recorded in april 2022. We are excited to welcome them to Kongsberg this year, and can’t wait to hear this new constellation.
