When the Maria Kanneagaard Trio meets the sound artist Deathprod, it opens up for a new and more electric soundscape, and new ways of improvising.

Maria Kannegaard Trio feat. Deathprod!
It is a great honor to be able to open Kongsberg Jazzfestival 2025 with Maria Kannegaard's commissioned piece Borte Vekk Meg I Morgen.
For over two decades Maria Kannegaard has moved and touched a large audience with her music. She is described as a formidable and distinctive pianist. Her compositions are extremely nuanced, have a strong dynamic and catchy melody lines. The music is conveyed with a deep fervour, which brings the listeners close to her fascinating and breathtaking musical world.
Kannegaard was the first female instrumentalist at Jazzlinja in Trondheim. It was here, during her studies in the 90s, that she met the musicians we know from the Maria Kannegaard Trio; drummer Thomas Strønen and bassist Ole Morten Vagan.
The trio released four records in the period 2000 to 2008 which helped to give the band a solid position in Norwegian jazz. After periodic breaks from his career as a musician, which has been intimately and warmly portrayed in NRK's radio documentary The Pianist, the trio made a much-anticipated comeback during Nattjazz in 2019. The following year saw the studio recording SAND I VIK (2020), received with glowing reviews, and awarded the Spellemann prize in the jazz category. In 2024, Kannegaard received Norwegian jazz's highest award, the Buddy award.
At the opening concert in Kongsberg Musikkteater, Kannegaard, in addition to Strønen and Vågan, also has the sound artist with him Deathprod. Internationally regarded as a pioneer in electronic music, he enjoys a great reputation all over the world. He is otherwise known for his collaboration with i.a. Motorpsycho and as a member of critically acclaimed Supersilent.
It will thus be a meeting with a well-known ensemble, combined with a new factor represented by Deathprod and his unique musicality. It will be a journey into new, unknown landscapes that opens up a new and more electric soundscape and new ways of improvising.
The commisioned piece is a collaboration between Mandaljazz and Kongsberg Jazzfestival, and will be premiered at Mandaljazz at the end of June.
