On Saturday 9 July, the audience can look forward to a live experience with one of the hippest international jazz names right now, when Makaya McCraven ends this year's festival with a club concert at Energimølla. Expect unpredictable rhythms and sonic soundscapes imported straight from Chicago to Kongsberg!

The visionary drummer is the son of musician parents, born in Paris but raised in Massachusetts, USA. Since childhood, he has grown up with music in many genres around him, which was often served by his parents' friends, who became his mentors - jazz greats such as Marion Brown, Archie Shepp and Yusef Lateef. As an established musician on the rise, Makaya McCraven now represents a growing generation of global, cross-genre musicians. His unique concerts and projects fearlessly confirm the right to redefine the rules of the game for music - both for himself, but also with a nod to other artists' exploration and development.

He broke through with the album In the Moment in 2015, which was dubbed the album of the week and the year by several major media such as the BBC and the Los Angeles Times. With this album, Makaya McCraven launched her musical signature, which can be called "organic beat music". From now on it was full speed ahead. He has toured both in the US and internationally, and produced four critically acclaimed releases in the past four years. Despite many performances and broad musical activity, the focus is still on creating new music and pushing music culture forward.
