LILY
There are a multitude of good musicians in this country, and many of them must necessarily end up a bit in the shadows. One who is definitely not in the shadow of anyone is the versatile Oddrun Lilja Jonsdottir. Now she is coming to the Kongsberg Jazz Festival with her project LILJA.
The guitarist and vocalist Oddrun Lilja creates music that is completely her own, a completely personal brew with ingredients from the most diverse musical traditions. Already at the age of nineteen, she went to New York and stayed there fora with creative jazz music. Since then, she has been on many long journeys and everywhere absorbed impressions from the music she heard. India, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Lebanon and Iceland are some of the places she has visited and been impressed by. But also more homely music has wedged its way in among all the exotic foreign stuff - like playing Harding's fiddle.
The fact that she has played a lot with Bugge Wesseltoft and is in "Circus" - the particularly open-minded band of Paal Nilssen-Love - has also contributed to the fact that she appears today as a musician with an expression that is her own, and that it is a exquisite joy and trembling joy to listen to. All reviewers of the album "Marble" agreed on that. Of course, such music deserves to be performed by the best musicians, and to Kongsberg she brings a real star team:
