Norway is lucky enough to have a multitude of wonderful jazz musicians, so many that some of them may end up in the shadows of others. One who is absolutely not in the shadows is versatile musician Oddrun Lilja Jonsdottir. This year she brings her project LILJA to Kongsberg.
Guitarist and vocalist Oddrun Lilja brings together ingredients from the most diverse musical traditions to create a personal brew of music that is like no-one else’s. At the age of nineteen she travelled to New York to immerse herself in the creative jazz scene there; since then she has travelled far and wide, absorbing ideas and impulses from music in India, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Lebanon and Iceland, among other places. Norwegian folk music (for example Hardanger fiddle tunes) also finds a space among the sounds from more exotic cultures.
She has worked extensively with Bugge Wesseltoft, and also plays in Paal Nilssen-Love’s open-minded band Circus – both experiences that have helped her develop a unique and personal expression that is a joy to listen to. Reviews of her album Marble were unequivocally glowing.
Music like this deserves to be performed by the crème de la crème of musicians, and Oddrun Lilja brings a star team to Kongsberg:
Beady Belle (vocals), Bafana Nhlapo (vocals), Jo Skaansar (bass) and Erik Nylander (drums).
