CANCELED Kathrine Windfeld

"……I'm definitely not afraid to write a beautiful ballad, it has to be deep and heartfelt. But it should be super sensory stimulating. The fact that you get through the entire color scale, it's fantastic. I am a temperamental person with big feelings".

Concert start: 1400 Single ticket price: NOK 350

Danish Kathrine Windfeld has within a few years established herself on both the Danish and the international jazz scene - as a pianist, composer, arranger and bandleader.

Mikhail Fridman, a businessman with such a keen interest in jazz that he has founded a jazz festival and established a jazz prize for young jazz talents. Letter One Rising Stars Award was awarded this year Kathrine Windfeld. The prize winner will play at a select selection of jazz festivals, and of course at Kongsberg Jazzfestival - as the only Scandinavian festival.

Kathrine Windfeld was named "New Jazz Artist of the Year" at the Danish Music Award in 2016, and in 2018 the record "Latency" was chosen as the Danish jazz record of the year. She has attracted justified attention, primarily with her big band. She excels with original compositions and fine and personal arrangements. Many of the same qualities characterize her sextet, and it is the sextet she is now going on a festival tour with. She cites Kenny Wheeler and Branford Marsalis among those who have inspired her. The sextet consists of young musicians from Denmark, Sweden and Poland, and these are musicians who fulfill the ambitions in Kathrine's compositions and arrangements. Moreover, all are skilled soloists. Be prepared for a concert full of temperament and temperature and fierce energy - which is occasionally replaced by searingly beautiful lyrics. She herself says: "My music is melodic and catchy (...) Many people write far too nicely. I'm definitely not afraid of writing a beautiful ballad, it has to be deep and heartfelt. But it should be super sensory stimulating. The fact that you get through the entire color scale, it's fantastic. I am a temperamental person with big feelings".
