Joshua Redman Quartet
Joshua Redman is heavily hereditary, in the best positive sense. As the son of saxophonist Dewey Redman, it is not surprising that he chose that particular instrument. Musically, he is firmly within the living jazz tradition. He himself mentions Sonny Rollins as his central source of inspiration together with, among others, Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane and not least Ornette Coleman. But this is the basis for a unique creative style of music with the main emphasis on conveying different moods and experiences. Breadth therefore characterizes the musical expression of Joshua Redman. Here we meet blues, funk, ballads, freestyle, bop - all fused together into a holistic and personal playing style. As he himself eagerly points out, he is concerned with communication. For him, nothing is a must when it comes to music, only the dialogue and creating something in a process with others. Each piece played must "tell a story charged with emotion". Jazz is improvisation – something that is created here and now, says Joshua Redman.
With him to Kongsberg, Redman has his quartet, consisting of Aaron Goldberg on piano, Reuben Rogers on bass, and Gregory Hutchinson on drums. We are looking forward to another great concert at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival with one of the jazz scene's biggest stars!
