Joshua Abrams Natural Information Society with Helge Sten & Hamid Drake

From Chicago comes Joshua Abrams' Natural Information Society with a mix of long stretches, minimalist lines and hard-swinging rhythms. Joshua Abrams' guimbri is the centerpiece of the music, which mixes inspiration from gnawa, free jazz and psychedelia. Since the band was started in 2010, the line-up has varied at concerts and recordings, but in recent years it has centered around Abrams with Lisa Alvarado on harmonium and gong, bass clarinetist Jason Stein and drummer Mikel Avery.

 

At Kongsbergjazz they will also be joined by Helge Sten and Hamid Drake. They have both guested with the band before, although not at the same time. Helge Sten has mastered several of the records for the Natural Information Society and contributed greatly to a magical concert when they played in Oslo just over a year ago. Hamid Drake often plays with the band both in the studio and live, and we are very happy that this legend will be found on stage as part of this sextet at Energimølla.
