Jon Rune Strøm Quintet

Bass player Jon Rune Strøm has for a number of years been an important supporter and fellow musician in some of the best jazz groups in Norway and Scandinavia. Now he has put together his own band.

Concert starts: 19:00 Single ticket price: NOK 300

Jon Rune Strøm has deservedly attracted attention with his bass playing in bands such as Friends & Neighbors, Paal Nilssen-Loves Large Unit, Frode Gjerstad Trio and All Included - to name a few. In his quintet, he realizes his desire for a band where the music is largely groovy and riff-based; therefore, two bass players and a drummer frolic rather powerfully. From Paal Nilssen-Love's Large Unit, Strøm has brought along bassist Christian Meaas Svendsen and drummer Andreas Wildhagen. They have developed a particularly intense interaction, and when needed, the bass players switch to electric bass. There is of course also plenty of room for solos, and the two wind players, André Roligheten (sax) and Thomas Johansson (trumpet) use every opportunity to show what lives in them in terms of temperament, energy and melodic imagination. Although the band undoubtedly has its own identity, it is clear that it draws impulses and inspiration from the jazz pioneers of the 1960s and 70s - such as Ornette Coleman and John Coltrane.

André Roligheten (sax), Thomas Johansson (trumpet), Jon Rune Strøm (bass), Christian Meaas Svendsen (bass), Andreas Wildhagen (drums)

Concert start at 19:00. The doors open at 18:30.
