Joakim Rainer Trio
Young jazz musicians of the year 2022!
This exciting and young piano trio, led by Joakim Rainer Petersen, consists of some of the country's most active young jazz musicians. They play with their eyes directed forward in the classic piano trio format, and with roots in jazz history. The music is spontaneous and playful, and rhythmically captivating. The compositions build complex shapes and asymmetric loops. Their compositions and improvisations reflect predecessors such as Andrew Hill and Paul Bley, but retain and proclaim a distinct musical personality. With an electric vitality and fearlessness, their curiosity takes them through both known and uncharted territories, all described in their own euphonic language. Rhythmically diverse, harmonically unfettered, micromelodic, their uniquely charming approach proves both challenging and winning. A particularly exciting mix of expressions that are combined with listening, playing and focused interaction.
The Joakim Rainer Trio was named Young Jazz Musicians of the Year when they won Jazzintro at Moldejazz 2022. "The band has challenging compositions with harmonic and rhythmic complexity that make it exciting to listen to. You have to involve yourself as a listener and when you do you get a very diverse tonal experience. The musicians play together and have a clear dialogue with each other. The music is solid and energetic, and they
convinces us with excess and playfulness. They invite us into their whimsical universe.” This was the jury's reasoning.
