Jazzmesse with Acta Musicae
Specially composed jazz mass for the choir Acta Musicae, in the free and improvisatory tonal language of jazz.

Welcome to Jazz Mass: Missa Vitalis Festum (Feast of Life))!
Liv Hukkelberg With the performance of this mass, she brings to a close a career spanning over 55 years as a choral conductor. Since 1970, she has conducted several choirs: youth choirs, children's choirs, mixed choirs and choirs with equal voices. Acta Musicae is the choir Hukkelberg has conducted, developed and elevated musically, over the longest period as conductor, a full 28 years!
On this occasion, Sigurd Hukkelberg specially composed a jazz mass for the choir. The mass is written over the service's mass texts Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Agnus Dei. In addition, he has written some free translations of the Latin texts. The music is composed in the free and improvisational tone language of jazz. Syncopated rhythms, harmonies that create tension/relaxation and free sketches that give room for improvisation.
The work is for choir, which alternates with singing the cantus firmus (the melody part). The work is therefore without a soloist, the choir being the focus here.
Those attending are also invited to join in hymn singing and reflection, lighting candles and silence, the opportunity for communion and plenty of time to simply rest in the music.
The mass will be performed on the Jazz Festival's opening day, and will be a brilliant conclusion to Liv Hukkelberg's valuable and long-standing contribution to music, and especially the choral tradition.
It is with warm and great pleasure that we welcome you to the Jazzmesse Lifets fest!
