Jazz intro: I LIKE TO SLEEP + Krilles Manjaro

Eight of the country's most promising young jazz bands have been selected for Jazzintro 2018. Throughout the spring and summer, they will compete for a final place at the country's biggest jazz festivals and the title of Young Jazz Musicians of the Year 2018.

Door opens: 17:00 Single ticket price: NOK 200

From the preliminary rounds at Vossa Jazz, Maijazz, Nattjazz and Kongsberg Jazz Festival, four bands will advance to the finals at Moldejazz. There, a jury consisting of some of the country's leading jazz musicians will choose a winner. The band that becomes Young Jazz Musicians of the Year 2016 will receive a launch package from the Norwegian Jazz Forum as well as a Gramo grant of NOK 150.

Jazzintro has been held every two years since 1998. Previous winners include Urban Connection, in the country, Puma, Albatrosh, Mopti, Monkey Plot and Megalodon Collective.

Krill's Manjaro is a quartet originating from Jazzlinja in Trondheim. Based on the jazz tradition, and inspiration from free improvisation, compositional techniques from the early 1900th century and today's pop music, the band searches for a free improvisational scope within given frameworks. The quartet play each other's compositions, and they seek to convey a personal expression that can strike a broad chord, without advocating the narrow.

Christian Cuadra (saxophones), Hogne Kleiberg (piano), David Andersson (bass), Oddbjørn Sponås (percussion)

I LIKE TO SLEEP is a young and energetic Trondheim trio that has been performing since autumn 2015. Based on the musicians' common interest in the modern Trondheim jazz expression, (free) improvisation and 60/70s jazz and prog rock, I LIKE TO SLEEP was started with the rather non-traditional line-up , drums, baritone guitar and vibraphone. With extensive improvisation, heavy riffs, free and melodious parts, ILTS expresses a new direction within modern jazz, often referred to as power jazz. The band has a number of concerts behind them, including as support for Motorpsycho, and their debut record BEDMONSTER has received a number of good reviews in Europe and Canada as well as here at home.

Amund Storløkken Åse (vibraphone), Nicolas Leirtrø (baritone guitar and compositions), Øyvind Leite (drums)
