«It must swing – the blue note story»
Director: Eric Friedler, Germany 2019 (115 min)

The award-winning documentary tells the gripping story of how Jewish refugees Alfred Lion and Frank Wolff left Germany for the United States and created the most uncompromising label in jazz history.

Passion for jazz and respect for the performers were always paramount. Blue Note produced for all the greatest: including Miles Davis, Herbie Hancock, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Thelonious Monk and Quincy Jones. Although Lion and Wolff are long dead, Blue Note still exists and today it is owned by Capitol Records.

Jazzfilm is supported by the Norwegian Film Institute and Buskerud county municipality
