Jazz Film: Blue Note Records – Beyond The Notes
Few record companies have meant more to the popularity of jazz than the iconic Blue Note Records.
90 min, Switzerland, 2018
Director: Sophie Huber
Through unique archive material and conversations with artists, we get a unique insight into the company's history and the basis of ideas that have characterized all releases since 1939. In the film, we meet legends such as Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter and up-and-coming musicians such as Robert Glasper and Lionel Loueke.
Since its inception, Blue Note has focused on freedom of expression, equality and dialogue - values that are as relevant today as when the two German immigrants Francis Wulf and Alfred Lion started the company.
