Pictures and reviews:
Minuano takes elements from jazz, pop and soul and writes his own arrangements of a wide range of songs. The outstanding vocalist, Reidun Ottersen - with his extreme register of four octaves, excels at the front of the stage with a tight band behind him. The band enjoys themselves on stage and is incredibly exciting to both hear and watch. There is buckets and buckets of fun here! The band has just completed three years at the music line in Kongsberg together and has played at the jazz festival before, as well as NRK's summer train and on several other occasions at JazzEvidence. Mean Boys makes an attempt to reflect the good feeling of summer. The music has a naive expression, inspired by both improvisation and pop. With their fine and melodious tunes, they play up to dancing in the Jazzbox. Mean Boys consists of Håvard Aufles (synth/sampler) and Peder Overvik Stuberg (electric guitar/sampler)
Island of Mars was formed when Julie Stokke (vocals) met Markus Servan (bass) at Trøndertun folkehøgskole, autumn 2017. They are now studying music at the Paul McCartney school, LIPA, in Liverpool. The music is characterized by deeply personal lyrics and a distinctive atmospheric bass style that gives a unique and evocative soundscape. The duo has now become a full band, which also consists of Anja Sand (drums/glockenspiel) and Kenneth Martinsen Tandberg (guitar).
The name MayRahKee comes from the Greek term meraki, which can be translated to 'the essence of oneself put into the work one performs'. This is also the band's principal focus in the composing process, and is manifested in their strong presence on stage. Through a soulful synthesis of jazz, neo-soul and electronica, MayRahKee presents bold harmonies over intricate rhythms. The Nordic clarity gives a delicious nerve to the warm soundscape, as the band creates elegant movements in the silence. The band was formed in 2015, and this winter vocalist Vilde Skjerdal took his musicians to Studio Cederberg for the recording of his first album. The result will be able to be experienced for the first time at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival!
Rowland's Evil Jazz Trio is an Oslo-based guitar trio that plays jazz - of the evil kind. Harsh, biting and brutal sounds turn into dark and mysterious tunes. The trio consists of Roland Galewicz (drums), Henrik Sandstad Dalen (double bass) and Håvard Norberg Funderud (guitar).
With a focus on text, melody and improvisation, the musicians interpret in Najma Music their favorite standard songs and turn them into their own. They exploit the trio format for what it's worth! They create simple arrangements with a focus on interaction and groove, which makes the music good and listenable. The band consists of Mona Krogstad, tenor saxophone (Jazzlinja in Trondheim) Lise Hilmarsen, vocals (Birka Folkehøyskole, jazz) Petter Berg Aspen, guitar (Norwegian Academy of Music)
