Iver Kleive & Knut Reiersrud
Organist meets blues guitarist, earthy meets sublime, when Iver Kleive and Knut Reiersrud play a midnight concert in Kongsberg Church.
The Norwegian pianist, organist, conductor and composer Iver Kleive is a guest at this year's Kongsberg Jazz Festival together with the blues guitarist Knut Reiersrud. On Saturday during the festival, they take the stage in Kongsberg Church to play the festival's traditional midnight and closing concert.
Few can play the organ like Iver Kleive. Since the early 70s, he has played the organ, and run an extensive business as a studio musician, accompanist, composer, soloist and conductor. He has also led the Oslo Bach Choir for 30 years and has made countless recordings. In 2017, Iver Kleive was appointed a knight of the 1st class of the Order of St. Olav for his contribution to Norwegian music life. Knut Reiersrud has also been active since the 70s, and has developed a completely unique expression with elements from many forms of music. He has been awarded both as a guitarist and a composer and is internationally known from a wide range of collaborations with other artists. However, what makes Reiersrud completely unique is his ability to always be relevant and surprisingly innovative. He also has a very impressive catalog of recordings within the West. Actually about 300!
Together, Kleive & Reiersrud have released two records that have been awarded the Spellemannsprisen in the open class. On the first, Blue Coral (1991), the duo explore hymns and religious folk tunes in an open-minded and down-to-earth manner. An elegant successor came in 1996 in the form of the record skyship, which was recorded live in Sankt Knud's church in Odense, with vice singer Povl Dissing as guest vocalist on one of the tracks. In addition to guitar, organ and singing, the church room itself makes this recording powerful and present at the same time.
We look forward to experiencing the meeting between these two outstanding musicians and Kongsberg Church's magnificent acoustics on Saturday night at the Kongsberg Jazz Festival.
