Hot club de Nieu started as a revue band in the basement of the comedy house Nieu Scene in 2019. On stage were, among others, Kongsberg comedians Viggo Venn and Martin Marki.
Since then, Viggo Venn gone and gone world-famous clownand Martin Marki has been a central figure in the humor community around New SceneThe musicians in Hot club de Nieu has held concerts and created a party atmosphere, both as a house band at Nieu Scene and at other arenas in Eastern Norway. Guitarist Ola Erlien has expanded his horizons even further, becoming the new guitarist in the legendary Hot club from NorwayAt the Kongsberg Jazz Festival, everyone meets again, uniting the best of both worlds – jazz, humor and everything in between.
Like Hot club de Norvège – and Django Reinhardt's Hot club de France – Hot club de Nieu plays string swing, a cross between Romani music and jazz standards from the 30s and 40s. Here there are no drums, but many strings, which together cover both the virtuoso and the melancholic. This is melodic and catchy music for all age groups, for dancers and for listeners, for the serious and the playful.
In 2024, Hot club de Nieu released their debut album SWINGIN' WITH FRIENDS. It features both swing jazz and waltzes – with and without guest appearances from comedians associated with Nieu Scene. Viggo Venn, among others, contributes a breakneck solo on tablespoons.
