The lift to the scaffolding
Florence and her lover Julien plan to murder her husband and stage it as a suicide. Everything seems to be successful except for one small detail: a fatal mistake, which could mean the gallows for both of them. The three-time Oscar-nominated thriller Heisen til skafottet was one of the first masterpieces of the "French New Wave" and was Jeanne Moreau's breakthrough. With its stylistically correct photography and nervous tension, it is often compared to Hitchcock's films. Miles' improvised soundtrack contributes greatly to the overall film noir feel.
Directed by Louis Malle. France. 1 hour 28 minutes, 1958. With Jeanne Moreau, Maurice Ronet, Miles Davis
