ganavya
- spiritual jazz in a special class

We are living in a new golden age of spiritual jazz – and few represent this movement as strongly as ganavya. She is a vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist with a background in both Indian musical tradition and Western improvisation. Born in New York and raised in Tamil Nadu, she has quickly become one of the most distinctive and respected names on the international jazz scene.
“No matter the language or the content, Ganavya's voice is a thick ephemera, like smoke as dark as ink, just coming off the fire.”
— The New York Times
On her critically acclaimed album DAUGHTER OF A TEMPLE (2024), she blends South Indian harikatha-tradition, spiritual jazz and poetic improvisation, and has collaborated with giants such as Esperanza Spalding, Vijay Iyer, Shabaka Hutchings og Wayne ShorterThe album also features one of Shorter's last recordings before his passing, in which he performs a Buddhist chant with his wife, Carolina.
On the occasion 100th anniversary for John Coltrane will ganavya also include their own interpretations of the masterpiece Love Supreme – a musical tribute that connects her artistry with Coltrane's spiritual legacy.
The concert in Kongsberg Church will be a rare opportunity to experience Ganavya in a space that suits her music perfectly.
Welcome to an evening where time and space cease – and the music points towards something greater.
