Frode Gjerstad & Fred Lonberg-Holm
Saxophonist Frode Gjerstad meets cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm in the intimate gallery Åkern at this year’s jazzfestival in Kongsberg.
Frode Gjerstad is the godfather of jazz in Norway. With his fearless attitude to free jazz and free improvisation, he has paved the way for generations of musicians. For this year’s jazz festival in Kongsberg, he has chosen to work with the American cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm. He’s a part of the creative community in Chicago and has played with an enormous number of musicians, both jazz musicians, rock musicians, improvising musicians and – amazingly – also with musicians in the singer / songwriter tradition. We have heard him in Norway a few times and it is always an interesting experience. The meeting between Frode Gjerstad and Lonberg-Hom is something to look forward to with great expectations.
