Frode Gjerstad & Fred Lonberg-Holm
Saxophonist Frode Gjerstad meets cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm in the intimate art gallery Åkern.
Frode Gjerstad is the godfather of free jazz in Norway. With his searching and fearless attitude to free jazz and free improvisation, he has paved the way for several generations of musicians. But his reputation is not only due to his pioneering work, it is of course primarily connected to the fact that he is such a skilled musician; always on the go, always looking for new musicians to play with.
For this year's jazz festival at Kongsberg, Frode Gjerstad has chosen the American cellist Fred Lonberg-Holm. He is centrally located in the creative environment in Chicago and has played with an enormous number of musicians, both jazz musicians, rock musicians, freely improvising musicians and - amazingly enough - also with musicians in the singer/songwriter tradition. We have heard him in Norway a few times, and it is always interesting to hear him. We look forward to his meeting with Frode Gjerstad with great expectations.
