Ensemble Denada and Mari Kvien Brunvoll: Commissioned work by Lars Horntveth and Erik Johannessen

Concert start: 14:00 Single ticket price: NOK 320

Newly written music and new musical collaboration!

The 15-member big band Ensemble Denada comes to the festival with the premiere of a brand new work by Lars Horntveth (Jaga Jazzist etc.) and Erik Johannessen (Ensemble Denada, Jaga Jazzist etc.) especially written for Ensemble Denada and Mari Kvien Brunvoll. As if that wasn't enough; the audience also gets to hear newly written compositions by the band's musical director Helge Sunde.

In the commissioned work by Horntveth/Johannessen, Ensemble Denada meets for the first time the unique vocalist Mari Kvien Brunvoll in a unique new musical collaboration. Brunvoll is one of the most exciting voices in new Norwegian jazz, and has captivated both a Norwegian and international audience for several years with her sensational solo project in which she plays with voice, sound props, electronics and loop boxes.

Ensemble Denadas is one of the country's top jazz ensembles. The band functions in many ways as an oversized quintet, where the flexibility and timing of a small crew is combined with the punch and dynamics of the big band.

In addition to the commissioned work from Lars Horntveth and Erik Johannessen, the audience at Kongsberg will also be treated to new music from the band's musical director Helge Sunde, one of our leading jazz composers and arrangers. After the magazine Downbeat showered a number of superlatives on the music on Ensemble Denada's latest release "Windfall" in 2013, it is finally time to hear newly written songs by the man who has left his clear signature on Ensemble Denada.

Ensemble Denada and Mari Kvien Brunvoll consists of:
